The Stop and Go Coalition is foregoing plans to seek an increase in the
minimum fare for traditional and modern jeepneys.
In news reports, Stop and Go Coalition president Zaldy Ping-Ay said the
group is not proceeding with the plan to push for a fare increase.
No reason was given for the decision in the news reports.
The coalition earlier aired plans to seek an increase in the minimum fare
for traditional jeepneys from 12 to 15 pesos and that of modern jeepneys
from 15 to 18 pesos.
The group had been complaining about members operating modern jeepneys only
receiving P6,500-pesos in fuel subsidy instead of P10,000 as promised by
government.
With fuel prices going up and down over the past few months, using fuel
price adjustments as a reason for fare hikes seem unreasonable.
