Metropolitan Manila Development Authority Chairman Romando Artes is
directing the agency's enforcers to focus more on managing traffic instead
of taking the time to ticket motorists for minor violations.
According to news reports, Artes wants enforcers to concentrate on ensuring
the free flow of traffic on major thoroughfares.
Instead of issuing tickets enforcers are enjoined to just warn and remind
motorists about following traffic rules and regulations.
The MMDA chief noted that getting motorists to pull over to the side of
thoroughfares to issue tickets obstructs the smooth flow of traffic.
This shift in focus is part of MMDA's efforts to ease traffic during the
long holiday season in the metropolis.
MMDA officials met with mall operators to discuss measures to alleviate
traffic by adjusting mall opening hours and times for deliveries of goods
and commodities from November 18 to December 25.
The MMDA said it would also prohibit road diggings during the period.
Horrendous traffic during the holiday season is a perennial problem that
has so far seen no effective solution. Good luck MMDA! Good luck metro
motorists.
