The Land Transportation Office has suspended implementation of regulations
mandating registration of all light electric vehicles.
It also suspended the mandatory use of standard protective motorcycle
helmets for LEV users
According to LTO chief Vigor D. Mendoza II, the suspension remains pending
the amendment of the IRR or Implementing Rules and Regulations of the EVIDA
Law.
The LTO clarified that the suspension of the LEV registration, use of
motorcycle helmets, licenses for operating LEVs will not affect the
ordinances implemented in various local government units regulating use of
LEVs on public roads.
The LTO regulations on LEVs apparently went against provisions and spirit
of the EVIDA law. Now LEV owners and users are asking: Do LGU ordinances
banning LEVs from public roads also go against EVIDA?
