The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority is studying the possibility
of establishing an exclusive lane for buses on Commonwealth Avenue similar
to the EDSA Carousel or Busway.
News reports quoted MMDA acting chairman Romando Artes as saying that
traffic congestion on Commonwealth Avenue has gotten worse and that an EDSA
Busway type of operation is being eyed as a solution to the problem.
Also being eyed is the construction of a tunnel underneath the Quezon
Elliptical Circular to link Commonwealth Avenue directly to Quezon Avenue
or East Avenue.
According to the MMDA an average of 18,000 vehicles pass Commonwealth
Avenue daily, around 10,000 heading to Quezon Avenue and another 8,000
heading to East Avenue.
Many pundits have come out in favor of the Commonwealth bus carousel idea
which they argue is an easier and less expensive fix than constructing a
tunnel.
