No Year-Long Free Rides on MRT

Netizens, especially those who commute daily, were abuzz recently after a post trended and shared on Facebook about Metro Rail Transit Line 3 supposedly giving away year-long free ride cards in celebration of its 30th anniversary.

The announcement on the Manila Metro or Manila Transport page urged people to register on a website to get the year-long MRT-3 free ride card.

MRT-3 management immediately issued a statement saying: "Any announcements on Manila Transport Facebook page, including supposed promotion for free rides, are not associated with the rail line."

MRT-3 also reminded the public to check for announcements on its official website: https://www.facebook.com/dotrmrt3.

Earlier, the MRT-3 management said that 24,998 government employees benefited from free MRT-3 rides from September 18 to 20 as part of the 124th anniversary of the Philippine civil service.

Those who frequent social media or who get text and other messages on their mobile phones from dubious sources should take to heart the adage: If it's too good to be true, don't believe it.
